How to pass JNTUK R16 Thermal Engineering II?

So to pass Thermal Engineering you need to solve problems from the textbook. This is an 80%  Problematic Subject and 20% Theory Subject.

I prefer Thermodynamics and Heat Engines/R. Yadav, Volume -II /Central Publishing House you get this book in Amazon.

According to R16 Syllabus, you have 6 units in this subject.

Don't visit this link if your exam is tomorrow. Visit this link only if you have at least 5 days for the exams. The Important question (Just for reference)

UNIT 1

From BASIC CONCEPTS, you will mostly get theory and a few basic problems. These problems will be asked in mostly in Section A of the question paper. So it's easy to complete this unit in 2 days if you have time.

If you are seeing this website night before the exam, study this unit in the early morning for section A Theory questions on.

I don't recommend this unit for attempting for section B because you cannot predict questions form this unit. You may get problems or theory from this unit.

If you are good with problems you can choose this unit.

UNIT II:

Boilers
In this unit, all the questions you get will be working or diagrams of Low Pressure or High-Pressure boilers.

So there will be different kinds of Boilers and with diagrams, you need to master them.

Mountings and Accessories: In this topic also you need to memorize the pictures, working and uses of each component.

Boiler Horse Power, Equivalent Evaporation, Efficiency and Heat Balance. In this topic, you will have a small formula based problems. You will get them in Section A mostly.

Draughts: In this topic, you will have both problems and Theory.

So study the theory first and try to solve the problems if you have time. If think there is bad luck following you you will get a problem in your SET (question paper) only.

So there is a 25% chance you will get a problem from Draught in Section B.

Overall:  Focus on Theory mostly, if you mastered the theory, try to solve problems in Draught.
Use this unit for your advantage to gain more marks.

UNIT III:

Steam Nozzles

I find this unit more difficulty as this unit is based on nozzles. The most asked question in this unit is Derivation of Nozzle. It is two pages long derivation. so don't try to memorize this equation just before the exams.

Just memorize the formula for Nozzle to solve the problem.

I don't recommend this unit before the exam. It's Just too confusing if you open this unit hours before the exam.

Steam Turbines:

Same as the Nozzles this topic is also problematic and it's confusing just before the exam.

To Master this unit you need at least two weeks before the Exams. And there is no guarantee you will be getting 12 marks from this Unit.

If you are interested to learn this topic Visit NPTEL NOTES

UNIT-IV

Reaction Turbine:

In this unit, you can expect all the questions to be problematic.

so you need to extra cautious while reading this unit. To understand this unit you should know about the Fluid Mechanics chapter. http://fm-nitk.vlabs.ac.in/exp3/index.html. and velocity diagrams.

And this topic is hard to study just before the exams. You need to spend at least 3  free weeks before the exams to be perfect on this topic alone.

Steam Condensers

In this topic, you will find mostly Problems and less Theory. Problems in this theory are formulas based so all you need to remember is formulas and substitute given values in the formula and you will get the answers.

UNIT V

if you go to Exam without reading this Unit you will definitely fail.

The Examiner will ask the most problematic questions from this chapter only.

so be ready to face any kind of problem from this unit.

In this unit, you will have a different kind of Cycles with diagrams.

Learn the schematic diagram and compared it with pressure and volume graphs.

Formulas can be easily derived from the diagrams, so no need to Memorize the formulas.

UNIT VI

If you are lucky enough to have a theory question in your question paper, you will get all the theory questions from this unit.

You will be asked to draw the Rocket Engine Propulsion system for 12 Marks.

The Jet propulsion system problems are similar to the Gas turbine sums, so you can easily understand the problems.

All the best for your exam.

So I will choose 5th,6th and 2nd units and read them fully.

Follow the Textbook solved examples, all JNTUK question papers have one thing in common. They all give textbook solved examples in the question paper.

So you need to find the right textbook from the library.
